Types and Benefits of Replacement Windows

There are many different types of windows, each with their own list of benefits and styles.  While some windows focus on maximizing internal light and providing a picturesque view, others are designed for increased airflow or even security.  Choosing the right window type starts with examining your ideal exterior design, and identifying what problems you would like your new windows to address.  Here are four window options to consider when looking to replace your existing windows.

Double-Hung Windows Provide Versatility

Double-hung windows are some of the most commonly used windows in the nation, and for a good reason.  Double-hung windows can slide both up and down, with cold air entering through the bottom, while hot, heavy air exits through the opening at the top. This provides a homeowner with control over air ventilation. Double-hung windows are also relatively inexpensive in comparison to other window options, leaving a homeowner with leftover capital to customize interior details like drapes and curtains.

Double-hung windows contain a fixed separator in the center of the window, which also allows for easy cleaning.  In comparison, single-hung windows must often be cleaned from the exterior of a home, which can be difficult and require a lot of time for a homeowner. Our Double-hung windows are durable, stylish, easy to clean, and come in a variety of styles that make the perfect addition to any home.

Bay/Bow Windows Maximize Light, Improve Exterior Design

Bay windows are composed of three panes of glass that extend from the home, protruding outward into the yard. They’re known for their ability to raise curb appeal, while simultaneously allowing more external light to enter a home. Their aesthetic appeal makes them a major design upgrade over typical windows, while also requiring no interior space.  Their curve also works to make the interior appear larger, while the daylight they allow to enter a home provides an airy, glowing ambiance to any room. Bay Windows can also feature a single Picture Window at the center, which is designed to be the focal point of the window, and provide an undisturbed viewing area.

Bow Windows, on the other hand, are typically composed of four or more windows, and are designed to form a semi-circle that extends from the home.  Like Bay Windows, Bow Windows contains a small pocket of interior space that is perfect for a sitting chair, or intimate viewing area. They are also known for their ability to trap heat and serve as a focal point for the exterior design of the house, while simultaneously possessing the unique ability to wrap around corners for a look that will be the envy of the entire block. Since they protrude outward into the yard, they also possess a unique ability to provide fresh air circulation when opened.

Picture Windows Provide Great View and Easy Cleaning

Picture windows are large, singular pieces of stationary glass that are fixed in position, meaning they do not open or close. And, because they contain no moving parts, you will never have to pay to fix their functionality, and the cleaning process is very simple and effective. They are typically utilized to improve interior design, maximize natural light, or provide a picturesque view. Most picture windows are custom fitted to the specifications of a home, allowing a homeowner the ability to design and customize.  They can also be installed with no bars or other view blockers, creating a clean, holistic design.

Picture Windows can be utilized at the center of a three-pane Bay Window for a glamorous and expansive view, and are often incorporated within a room where one might want to let in external light or open the curtains in the morning. Some good places to utilize picture windows are bedrooms, and living spaces.

Casement Windows Provide Security

Casement Windows can open either vertically or horizontally, by swinging out on a hinge. This often leaves the homeowner the choice of opening the window partially, or fully, ensuring that increased ventilation doesn’t necessarily have to come with the admittance of outside debris, dirt or pollen. Casement Windows work well when combined with other windows, such as Bay or Bow Windows, and provide an unobstructed view as they have only a single sash.

Casement Windows are great for security, as the locks are sturdy. They also perform very well against wind, rain, and snow, and possess the ability for all four sides of the window to seal into the sash when the window is locked.  Casement Windows also feature a design versatility that is similar to that of Double Hung Windows, in that they can be mixed, matched, and customized to fit the exact design preferences of a homeowner. These windows can even incorporate single, double, triple, or even more than three glass panes, allowing a homeowner to construct the ideal aesthetic look, while simultaneously ensuring home security, holistic style, and exterior design.
